What is OET

What is OET

OET is an occupational English test of English used in the healthcare sector and is approved by the Australian government as a way to measure the language proficiency of people who want to study tertiary courses in or immigrate to Australia. It is also accepted in UK, New Zealand and America.

Features of OET training with BML

The Bridge Medical Language OET is a 12-week intensive program designed to prepare international students to take the OET test. The main delivery mode is synchronous online study and this course covers the four macro-skills included in the test. However, assessments and homework will provide students the opportunity to study outside the classroom in their own time. The reasons for students to choose BML are:
• BML OET Course was developed by coordinator Amy Pan who is an OET center
authorised external provider and senior nursing educator
• 130 success cases at BML in the last couple years
• Supporting students Skills on: Grammar, Conversation, Vocabulary, Spelling & Pronunciation

Learning Outcomes

At the completion of this course, students will be able to achieve the following objectives:

Reading and Writing:
- Read and engage in medical information texts on health topics
- Write referral letters based on medical context (specific to your healthcare profession)
- Use Work Health and Safety (WHS) vocabulary
- Improve written communication skills
- Confident in taking Reading and Writing sub-tests
Listening and Speaking:
- Develop knowledge of patient speak and lay terms
- Improve ability to listen to natural speech and actively engage in relevant topics
- Practice thinking and speaking in various situations
- Confident in taking Listening and Speaking subtests

Part 1: Listening 40 Mins
- Reading A -Speed reading 4 texts, gap-fill, locating information, SAQs
- Reading B – 6 short texts – MCQs
- Reading C – 2 long texts – MCQs

Part 3: Writing 45 Mins
- Mastering a referral letter
Part 2: Reading 60 Mins
- Reading A -Speed reading 4 texts, gap-fill, locating information, SAQs
- Reading B – 6 short texts – MCQs
- Reading C – 2 long texts – MCQs

Part 4: Speaking 15 Mins
- Mastering 2 role plays
