EAP-General Medical English

What is EAP-General Medical English

The Bridge Medical Language English for Academic Purposes (EAP)-General Medical English is a 12-week EAP programme. The fundamental goal for EAP-General Medical English students is to equip them with the skills necessary to fully integrate into an Australian University undergraduate course or to get access to the OET main course. With a focus on critical listening, academic reading, and presentation skills, the EAP programme is designed to prepare students for the academic rigour of a degree course learning and assessment environment. The four macro-skills are effectively integrated, increasing the possibility of a student becoming an autonomous learner, which is required for academic achievement at the university level or commencing their OET programme.

Features of EAP training with BML

The EAP course is a 12-week programme with 54 hours in total. The content includes:
- topics that allow for students to practice conversational and academic English
- grammar and vocabulary learning is presented in context
- critical thinking is connected to all four macro skills
- self-correction sheets, peer editing worksheets, and an academic word guide are included as appendices

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the program, students will be able to confidently and effectively participate in university lectures and workshops. The main delivery mode is synchronous online sessions. However, assessment and homework in students’ Canvas portal will provide students the opportunity to study outside the classroom in their own time.
